The “Resident Chat” in the Allthings App enables direct communication with your neighborhood—simple and GDPR-compliant.
Requirements
To use the chat, two conditions must be met:

The Micro‑App “My Neighbors” is available in your app.

You have shared your profile with the neighborhood.
Important: Once your profile is shared, it can be seen by anyone in your neighborhood who has also shared their profile.
Profile sharing

Share profile: If not already done, you can do this either via the chat bubble in the menu or directly in the “My Neighbors” Micro‑App.

Hide profile: Open your profile in the “My Neighbors” Micro‑App and click the three dots in the top right. Here, you can hide your profile.
Create chats and groups
Once your profile is shared, you have the following options:
Direct messages with one or more people

Open the chat by clicking the chat bubble.

Click the “+” in the lower right corner of the chat window.

Select the person(s) with whom you want to start a private chat.

Click “Next” to review the selection, then “Create”.
Alternatively: Open the “My Neighbors” Micro‑App and select the profile of the respective person. Then click “Start chat.”
Create groups

Open the chat by clicking the chat bubble.
- Click the “+” in the lower right corner of the chat window.

Click on “New group.”

Choose whether to create a private or public group.

Enter the group information (name and description).
-
Select the person(s) you want to add to the group.

Click “Next” to review the selection, then “Create.”
Difference between public and private groups

Public groups: Others in your neighborhood can join on their own—for example, for shared interests like gardening or dog walking.

Private groups: Only a group admin can add others—e.g., to discuss private topics.
Manage groups
Add and remove group admins
In private groups, only group admins can add or remove members. The initial admin is the person who created the group. That person can appoint additional admins.

Open the chat by clicking the chat bubble.

Select the private group.

Click the group name to open group settings and go to the “Members” tab.

Find the member and click the three dots.
-
Choose “Make admin” or “Remove as admin”.
→ Here you will also find the option to remove that member from the group.
Add group members

Open the chat by clicking the chat bubble.

Select the private group.
-
Click the group name to open group settings and go to the “Add members” tab.

Search for the person and select them.
-
Click “Save.”

You can create groups without inviting members immediately.
-
All members of a public group can invite others from their neighborhood.
-
Invited persons are added immediately and receive a notification.
-
A group disappears once the last member leaves it.
Chat messages and polls
Your active chats—both direct messages and group—are always available inside the chat window. New messages are highlighted by a small number on the chat bubble in the menu.
Edit or delete messages
To edit or delete a message, click the three dots next to the message and choose the appropriate option.
Reply to messages
To make chats clearer, you can reply directly to messages. Your reply will be shown below the message as a comment.
Click the three dots next to the message and select “Reply.”
Message reactions
React with emojis to messages or replies by clicking the three dots next to the message and selecting “React.”
Create polls
Create a poll directly in a chat (private chat or group):

Open the chat by clicking the chat bubble.

Select the existing direct message or group in which you want to create the poll.

Define response options and set options like multiple choice.

Click “Create.”
Push notifications for chat messages
Receive push notifications with sound & vibration for new messages.
Enable/disable push notifications

Open your profile by tapping the person icon.
-
Select “Notification settings.”
-
Choose which messages you want to receive a push notification for.
Important: Ensure that you have enabled the necessary settings in your smartphone’s system settings.
Chat search
The chat search allows you to search across your single and group chats.
Narrow down search: Specify the search by choosing whether to search for people, groups, or messages.
