Product types and variants
Shopify supports various product types and variants:
- Single products: Standard items without variants.
- Products with variants: Items offered in different versions (e.g. cleaning services that vary by size or number of rooms).
- Subscriptions: Recurring services that require customers to subscribe.
- Quote products: Pricing depends on the customer’s needs and requires a quote.
- External links: A product can redirect users to a partner website. This entry is listed among your products.
Products with variants
Add variants to a product that is available in more than one option, such as size or color.
Each combination of option values for a product can create a unique variant of that product.
Add product variants
- Open the product in the admin.
- Scroll to the variants section and click "add variant".
- Define the options (e.g. Size: S, M, L).
- Save your changes.
You can manage and update variants for an existing product at any time.
Subscriptions
You can add subscription as a purchase option. Residents can subscribe to recurring services and are charged a fixed amount at defined intervals (e.g., monthly, weekly, daily).
Steps:
- Create your product as usual.
- Go to the Apps section and select the app managing subscriptions (we use Appstle℠ Subscriptions).
- If no subscription plan exists, click "Create Subscription Plan" and follow the steps.
- If a plan exists, click Select Products to add the product to the plan.
Quote products
Using a suitable Shopify app like Request a Quote, you can enable custom quote requests for selected products.
Within the app, you can define which products require a quote, adjust settings such as mandatory fields or minimum quantities, and assign responsible team members for notifications. Incoming requests are managed and processed directly in the Shopify admin area.
Steps:
- Create the product in Shopify.
- Under Apps, open "Request a Quote & Hide Price".
- Go to Quote Form and create the required fields.
- Add custom questions under Form Fields (only one form is allowed, so make it comprehensive).
- Select the products the form applies to.
- Click "Save Form". For themes, click "Publish to Theme" to activate changes.
Add an external website redirect
You can create a page that redirects users to a partner website. This link will be displayed with other products.
Create a preview for the product category
- Go to "Sales Channels" > "Online Store".
- Under "Theme", click the green "Customize" button.
- Navigate to "Categories".
- In the left menu, click "Add section".
- Select "Image with text".
- Add an image, short text, and button title.
- Save your changes.
Create a redirect page
- Go to "Sales Channels" > "Online Store".
- Click "Pages" in the left menu.
- Click "Add page".
- Create your content and link to the external website.
- Save the page.
- Hover over the new page under "Pages", click "View page", and copy the URL.
- Paste the URL into the image button under "Preview product category".
Order management
View and manage orders
All incoming orders appear in the "Orders" section of the Shopify admin. You can:
- View order details
- Update order statuses

Customer communication
To contact customers:
- Open the respective order.
- Use the integrated messaging function to send an email.

Manage orders
Shopify offers a wide range of features and options for managing your orders. After an order has been placed, you can modify it at any time or add additional products. Detailed instructions on these topics can be found in the Shopify Help Center. If needed, orders can be canceled, archived, or deleted.
Configure shop settings
In the Shopify admin, you can configure core shop settings:
- Payments & translations: Under "Settings" > "Payments", select your providers. Set language options under "Settings" > "Languages".
- Notifications: Under "Settings" > "Notifications", add email addresses for responsible agents to receive order alerts.
- App notifications: Some apps (e.g., for quotes or bookings) require separate email settings configured within the app.
- Upload images: Upload product, post, or banner images via the product or theme editor. Use high-resolution, square images (1:1).
- User management: Add users under "Settings" > "Users and Permissions". Define roles and access levels.
